Bersted councillor quits

A member of Bersted Parish Council has resigned after 14 years as a councillor.

Ted Smith stood down at the March meeting for domestic reasons.

He is also leaving his role for the past 12 years as a governor at Bartons Infant School, though he will continue until July.

His fellow councillors formally paid tribute to his contribution. Council chairman Cllr Brian Knight said: "I am very surprised and sorry to hear this.

"You have always been a stalwart of this council and given a lot of time to the school," he stated.

Cllr Simon McDougall said: "Cllr Smith has been an outstanding servant of this council."
