Battle man dies in Peasmarsh crash

The 60-year-old, who has not yet been named, was travelling in the rear of a Ford Focus car when it collided with two other cars on the A268, Main Street, Peasmarsh, on Tuesday evening.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The front seat passenger of the Fiesta, a 59-year-old woman, also from Battle, was airlifted to Kings College Hospital, London.

She is reported to have sustained serious head injuries in the crash and remains in a critical condition.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene at around 7.10pm following reports that a Fiesta had collided with a VW Golf and then struck a stationary Nissan Primastar van.

A 63-year-old man from St Leonards, who was driving the Fiesta, was taken to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings with minor injuries, along with the 37-year-old male driver of the VW Golf.

The driver of the Nissan van, a 44-year-old man from Winchelsea, was uninjured.

Inspector Steve Grace from East Sussex Road Policing Unit said: “All road collisions that end in death and serious injury are very sad indeed and our thoughts are with the family of the injured and deceased.

“If anyone witnessed the incident or saw the cars prior to the collision can they please call 101 quoting Operation Somerton.”
