Baby in a hurry to see in the New Inn

Robert Brandon Lee Jewell stunned his parents Simon and Donna Jewell, of Cooper Drive, who had planned a quiet New Years Eve.

They were not expecting the new arrival until Sunday. Donna went to bed at ten o clock, feeling nothing more than a few twinges. She woke up at midnight to the sound of Big Ben chiming on the television.

"I thought the niggling pains were just a false alarm" said Donna.

Donna got up to go to the bathroom but did not even make it out of the bedroom before events took their course

Simon, who had slept through the little commotion there had been, was woken to the sound of his son s cries.

"It was a bit unexpected. It wasn t painful at all" said Donna.

From the births of their daughters Rhianna, 3, and Kathleen, 2, Donna and Simon knew how to cut and tie the umbilical cord.

They took care to leave it long so it could be done again at the hospital if necessary.

An ambulance was called and by 1.30am they were at the Conquest Hospital where Donna and Robert, at 8lb 5oz, were pronounced fit and well.
