All the fun of the festival

The week-long Alfriston Festival '“ which included a village stage performance, barn dance, quiz, dog show, classic car parade and inter-pub tug o' war contest '“ culminated in a fete on the Tye on Sunday.

Events old and new drew visitors in their thousands.

Local lads tried their hands at tilting the bucket; youngsters queued up for the mini go-karts; pony rides prove eternally popular; tossing the horseshoe took more skill than strength and the Johnny Spice Swing Band soon got feet tapping.

Ann Bryan, new chairman of the Alfriston Festival, paid tribute to local traders who helped make this one of its most successful years on record.

She said: 'Our local restaurants, shops and businesses are wonderful.

'They constantly support all the things we dream up for this village and we are very grateful to them.

'They helped make our day.'
