Alex, 12, gets his wheels

A CHRISTMAS present with a difference has transformed life for a boy with special needs.

Where others will be out on Christmas morning on gleaming new pedal cycles, Alex Moore would have remained home-bound had Bexhill Ladies' Circle members not lent their support to his family.

Alex, 12, a student at St Richard's Catholic College, has cerebral palsy and slight autism.

Alex has an older brother and a younger sister plus an older step-brother.

His step-father, Keith Baldwin, explained: "His brothers and sisters are off out on their bikes but Alex can't ride a normal bike."

Adult-sized tricycles are a specialist item with a correspondingly high price tag. Keith and Alex's mother, Cathy, turned to Ladies' Circle for help.

Now Liz Winchester and her members have given the family 50 towards the 400 cost - and the trike has arrived in time for Christmas.

Keith said: "The trike has given Alex a bit of freedom. He loves it. It makes him feel that he is on equal terms with other kids.

"I think it is fantastic that Ladies' Circle are supporting the needs of local people."
