Ms Wilton also stated that the quality of teaching and learning for children at the nursery was good and its staff had a strong understanding of the early learning goals.

They also enabled the children to use a variety of resources to support all areas of the early years curriculum. The youngsters were well cared for.

High staff ratios were in operation at the Aldwick Road nursery each day, Ms Wilton commented, and the employees had a good awareness of the childrens' abilities, characters and needs.

The leadership and management at the nursery was very effective and the team worked well overall as well as individually in each age group.

The nursery has 16 employees, led by manager Jan Turney, and is registered for 34 children aged from three months to five years at a time. It looks after 61 children in all.

Ms Wilton made four recommendations to improve the nursery's work even more.

These included developing a flexible approach to enable children to move freely between the indoor and outdoor areas and further developing children's individual records to include next steps in learning and sharing these regularly with parents. Mrs Turney said everyone involved with the nursery was pleased that Ms Wilton recognised how the chidren were loved and cared in a happy and safe environment.

'It is great that we are all still doing things well and it is great to have the positive feedback for all the hard work the staff put in,' she added.

n Children at the ABC Day Nursery in Aldwick Road have continued its tradition of fundraising. They completed laps of its garden, threw bean bags into buckets and made cakes and biscuits to contribute towards the 750 raised so far for this year's Children in Need.

Manager Jan Turney said: 'I would like to thank all the parents whose brilliant support helped us to raise such a fantastic amount.'
