3000-homes plan for Polegate

A RADICAL proposal to build thousands of houses in the north-west of Polegate could potentially save the rest of Wealden from massive development in the near future.

Pelham Homes released details of its scheme into the public domain for the first time on Wednesday, showing a development area capable of accommodating upwards of 3,000 new homes plus businesses.

If it went ahead, the proposal would bring huge implications for the town by more than doubling its population and would remove the need to build hundreds of houses in Hailsham, Willingdon, Uckfield and other part of the district.

The master plan shows that Pelham Homes would also build a major new addition to the county's trunk road across open fields, joining the A27 at Folkington to the Cophall Farm roundabout what some have dubbed 'the missing link' to the new Polegate bypass.

As part of the proposal, Pelham says it would 'revitalise' Polegate's troubled High Street and help woo big-name multinational stores to the town centre, allowing it to compete better with the crippling commercial attractions of Eastbourne.

These incredible proposals have been made in response to the first-draft Wealden Local Plan, which must find space in the district for 3,300 new houses, as required by Central Government.
