While the centuries-old barn in the grounds of Pigeon House, High Street, was filled with the sights and scents of summer, the large courtyard was packed with villagers and visitors, many seeking shade from the strong sun under the spreading branches, to enjoy tea and scones.

“The show was one of our best and certainly the weather played a part. We will be able to make a significant donation to the Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice, as our visitors were very generous,” said Bridget Kearns, the show treasurer.

“Not only do our visitors tell us it is a lovely village show, but also our competitors and stall holders love the day.

Villagers make sure they catch up with friends, and stall holders enjoy it so much they make sure they keep the date free every year so they can be part of the event.”

Craft stalls, a Girl Guide cake stall, a plant stall from the Angmering in Bloom team and a book stall added to the interest outside, while inside the barn there was much more to admire.

Neil Paffard won the Fresh Acres cup for best flower exhibit with his spectacular Delphiniums, John Goulding winning the Lord Delfont Cup as runner-up.
