Ferry good news as Littlehampton service re-launches

IT’S only a short distance, but it has taken a very long time to reinstate the ferry service across the River Arun at Littlehampton.

Plans to introduce the town’s eagerly-awaited river crossing will come to fruition at the end of the month.

After years of uncertainty, a dedicated ferry service, that will unite both the east and west banks of the river, will be launched for the public on Saturday, March 31.

There will be a party atmosphere during the event, at the Littlehampton Harbour Board office in Pier Road, with live entertainment and a balloon sculptor helping to lift the mood.

Visitors will also be offered one free, return trip ticket on the craft for the day.

The service will help to open up the west bank – with its picturesque beach, protected sand dunes and historic fort, as well as its yacht club, marina facilities, golf club and café – to Littlehampton visitors and residents, alike.

The ferry will run regularly, departing from the harbour board pontoon, outside the board’s office, and travelling across to the ferry pontoon at Littlehampton Yacht Club. It will also offer separate harbour tours giving historic facts about the area.

The attraction has been launched as a result of a partnership between Littlehampton Town Council, the harbour board, Littlehampton Yacht Club, the East and West Beach cafés and Action Boat Limited.
