Lisa Hazell, the owner of Shabby Shack Interiors on Seaside, opened up her shop again last week following the second national lockdown, only to have to close again due to a car crashing into the shop front on the night of December 3.

Lisa said a car parked across the road rolled backwards. She believes the handbrake hadn’t been properly applied.

The car rolled across the road and straight into the shop, causing damage not only to the exterior but also smashing a number of antique items that were displayed in the window according to Lisa.

Sussex Police were called and officers attended. Police say it was judged to be a mechanical failure and there were no injuries.

Lisa said, “It’s completely trashed. Everything in the window went crashing, including a big vase.”

The door is also severely damaged so Lisa had to break it down to enter the store the next morning.

Lisa said that the front wall and inside display platform will both have to be rebuilt - which means more days that the shop has to be closed.

This comes after Lisa found out she has to move out of the shop in February due to the landlord selling the property - giving her two months to sell everything.

She said, “It’s been a struggle to get the shop known, and now we are here we have to go - it’s such a shame. We’re running out of time.

“As we’ve been shut for four months this year, we’ve got no money to put a deposit down on anywhere else. It’s a nightmare.”
