He said: “Too many business websites address their potential customers by talking about themselves and, in the process, completely ignore the needs of the people they are intending to serve.

“Most people arrive at your website with a specific challenge or desire.

“A good website will address that need with inclusive text, relevant imagery and compelling calls to action.”

He outlined ways to reach out to customers online and stressed the importance of the strong role the mobile web has to play in an online strategy.

He explained: “According to GlobalWebIndex, 50 per cent of the average global mobile web users now use mobile as either their primary or exclusive means of going online.

“In addition 57 per cent of users say they won’t recommend a business with a poorly designed mobile site.

“It’s time for businesses to wake up to the amazing opportunity with mobile communication.”
