The Broadwood Morris Men’s Day of Dance 2013 will take place in Horsham town centre once again this year on Saturday (May 11).

This year there will be 33 sides taking part, some of which are featured in our slideshow from last year’s event.


You will be able to see, and hear, the Morris men and women all around Horsham in all of their various colourful costumes, and from 3pm there’s a chance to join in with a barn dance at the bandstand in the Carfax. 


Supporting the festival of Morris dancing, Horsham’s Local Produce Market will be going medieval for the day on the Carfax.

ARUNDEL Castle has started its 2013 season. Its 2013 event calendar can be found at www.arundelcastle.org.

SEVERAL gardens have opened ready for Easter. Here are the major ones.

Nymans house and gardens - Handcross.

Set in the High Weald with splendid views, the garden is a series of experimental designs with spectacular planting and beauty all year. The house, transformed into a Gothic mansion in the 1920s, burnt down shortly after, leaving romantic ruins. The remaining rooms are unexpectedly charming, filled with flowers from the garden as Anne Messel, Countess of Rosse had them. Ancient woods beyond the garden dip into the valley, with walks among avenues, wild flowers, the lake and cascades.

High Beeches Garden - Handcross.

27 acres of magnificent woodland and water gardens, full of rare, exotic and unusual plants; RHS award winning plants, a botanical treasure trove, and one of the great gardens of Sussex.

Borde Hill - Ardingly.

Borde Hill Garden is nestled in 200 acres of English Heritage listed Sussex parkland and woodland, with wonderful views across the Sussex Weald and the magnificent Ouse Valley. Borde Hill Garden is home to a nationally important collection of rare shrubs, champion trees and exotic plants.

Wakehurst Place - Ardingly

Visit Wakehurst in West Sussex and explore 465 acres of country estate with ornamental gardens, temperate woodlands and an Elizabethan Mansion. Join in our seasonal walks and themed tours to discover more.

Bluebell Railway Railway - Sheffield Park

The Bluebell Railway is a heritage line running for 11 mi along the border between East and West Sussex, England. It uses steam trains which operate between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead, with intermediate stations at Horsted Keynes & Kingscote.

reMEmber, the Sussex based charity for people who suffer from ME, will mark National ME Awareness Week with an event at the Sheldrake Suite, Martlets Hall in Burgess Hill at 2pm with two expert doctors to give advice. FRIENDS of Horsham Orchard Surgery Plant Sale and Coffee Morning at Orchard Surgery, Lower Tanbridge Way (next to library) from 10am to 12 noon. Plants, raffle, gift stall, bric-a-brac, jigsaws, cakes and books. All proceeds/donations towards the purchase of equipment for patients. Everyone welcome.

Billingshurst Horticultural Society hold a bargain plant sale, at Women’s Hall, High Street, Billingshurst 10am - 12pm. Produce, cakes, raffle and refreshments. Free admission.

HORSHAM May Fayre Garden Fete. From 12 noon to 4pm in the mid-town gardens of Horsham’s Unitarian Church (directly opposite the bus station). With free entry and entertainment for parents and children this is an opportunity to enliven your Saturday shopping trip with attractions which include, games, crafts, jewellery, cakes, bookstall, tattoos (non-permanent), plants, nail painting, raffle, cream teas and more. Pop in and enjoy some mid-city rural atmosphere while supporting the Butterfly Project local charity.

WARNHAM W.I. Bazaar and Coffee Morning from 10am to 11.30am at Warnham Village Hall. Stalls, cakes, books. Free admission. Proceeds go to local charities.

CATS Homing Show – Cats Protection Horsham and District together with the Crawley Branch are holding this event at Broadbridge Heath Village Centre, Wickhurst Lane from 11am – 3pm, If you are thinking of getting a cat please come along to see all the cats waiting for new homes.
