VIDEO: £8.5m compensation for Alfie Buck, born disabled after serious mistakes at hospital

The family of Alfie Buck, seven, from Horsham, have spoken about their long legal battle for compensation.

This week, the High Court awarded them £8.5m over what the family’s lawyers called a ‘catalogue of errors’ by midwifery staff.

Samantha Buck, who was suffering from pre-eclampsia, was admitted to Princess Royal Hospital in Hawyards Heath to have the baby induced.

The court heard that midwives left her unattended for more than 12 hours and, when Alfie was delivered, it was too late to save him from brain damage.

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust apologised in court, and agreed to a financial settlement which will allow Alfie to receive the lifelong care he will need.
