BATS promise the treat of A Christmas Carol

This next chilling but cheerful production from BATS is a large scale production of Charles Dicken’ classic ghost story, A Christmas Carol.

It will be performed at the De La Warr Pavilion on January 7-9 and director Mike Poole believes tears will be shed.

“It is a new adaptation of the book, which stays faithful to the original story and is trying to balance scary scenes with the heart-warming ones.” commented Mike.

“Dickens was famous for doing public readings of the book and for, well, scaring the Dickens out of his audiences. We are not going that far, but there will be chills and thrills – as there should be in any self-respecting ghost story.”

This balance of heart-warming and scary is nicely represented by Mrs Cratchit (Clare Sayers) and the Ghost of Christmas, the nice and nasty of this thrilling tale.

The production is bringing together actors from all the main amateur dramatic groups from Little Common, Bexhill, Battle, Hastings and beyond, plus singers from Julie George’s choir and local bell ringers. With about 40 people playing 60 characters, dressed in authentic costumes against an impressive set of Victorian London – this is probably the biggest local amateur show this festive season.
