Hastings and District Association of WRENS

THE chairman welcomed us to our October meeting and as the secretary and treasurer were both unavoidably absent, conducted all the business side of the meeting herself.

She told us that all the arrangements for the Christmas lunch would be the same as last year's; with the bran tub and raffle for which we all provide presents. We muster for lunch at 1.30pm.

Next year the centenary of Naval Aviation will be celebrated by the Fleet Air Arm with a number of events.

It was suggested that some of us might like to attend the one on May 1 which includes a fly-past over HMS Illustrious.

After a tea-break during which the Christmas lunch menu was handed round for us to make our choice, we enjoyed another fascinating show of Victorian magic lantern slides. After a brief history of their invention we were shown some of the first slides produced and were able to follow their development as the years passed, which was most interesting.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 4 when we shall be having a talk on Amish Country, the history and customs of this religious sect, with slides and any other ex-Wrens would be most welcome to join us.

For further details please ring our chairman on 01424 222721 or the secretary on 211102.
