Bexhill Photographic Club

MEMBERS met at the Friends Meeting House on January 15 for their first club competition of the year.

The evening was the third open print and second open slide competition.

Paul Carrington, our digital secretary, announced the favourable placing we gained in the PAGB national digital competition where we gained 66th position (from 88 clubs) being placed above Brighton and Hove Photographic Society and Steyning Club, which was no mean achievement.

John Bryant, our chairman, then introduced our judge for the evening, Bob Webzell ARPS, who had come over from Brighton and Hove Photographic Society. He brushed Paul Carrington's previous comment aside humorously. He then introduced himself and volunteered his evening's fee to a charity he supports in Tanzania.

He started his judgment on the slides:

General: Chris Martin found an Abandoned Train, probably in the USA, and scored 20 points.

Landscape was won by Norman King who photographed Swaledale In Winter. He also scored 20 points

Nature: Brian Reeve also scored 20 points won this class with a Damselfly.

Bob and the members took an early break after his very witty style of judging the 23 slides; he then had the daunting task to judge 54 prints. Unlike the slides when Bob only gave one twenty in each class, for the prints he awarded seven maximums, which were given to the following members: Vanessa Parker (two), David Rossiter, Cliff Willard, Norman King (two), and John Bryant.

Vanessa won the General Class with an African Leopard; Cliff the small print section with Beauford Detail and David Rossiter the Portrait Class with Tilley. The overall winning print of the evening was Vanessa's African Leopard.

John Bryant gave the vote of thanks and Bob responded that he was overwhelmed by the extremely high quality of our work and looks forward to returning to Bexhill in 12 months' time.

The winning prints will be on display in the Bexhill Observer window today, and for the coming week. The overall winners entries, including the slides, can be viewed on www.bexhillphotoclub.co.uk. If you may be interested in our club telephone Ray Barry 216297.
