The excitement of the Rugby World Cup is coming to Brighton - and the Sussex rugby community has not forgotten the less advantaged.

Wooden Spoon - the children's charity of rugby - works to improve the lives of children and young people with learning difficulties and disabilities.

In the past six years, Sussex Wooden Spoon - one of 40 regional committees - has raised almost £300,000, thanks to the enormous efforts of its volunteers and the support of the local rugby community,

Every penny raised goes to projects across Sussex, making a real difference to the lives of so many young people. These have recently included a project at Ferring Country Centre and a sensory room at St John's School, Seaford, opened by Joe Marler, the England prop.

With only a fortnight to go before an exciting weekend of World Cup rugby in Brighton - with attention focusing on Brighton Community Stadium for South Africa v Japan (4.45pm on Saturday, September 19) and Samoa v United States (noon on Sunday, September 20) - Wooden Spoon will be working hard to support the needs of others.

You can join Sussex Wooden Spoon for its pre-match fundraisers at the University of Sussex, just a few minutes walk from the stadium, with plenty of parking and close to the Falmer railway station:

Saturday, September 19, before South Africa v Japan. There's a three-course lunch, a bar, and a question-and-answer session with Neil De Kock, the former South Africa and current Saracens scrum half;

Sunday, September 20, a breakfast brunch before Samoa v United States.

Families are welcome to both.
