Security alert after gunman spotted near Gatwick runway
Reports of a gunman spotted near a runway at Gatwick Airport sparked a major security alert.
Police rushed to the scene after the man - armed with a rifle and dressed in black - was seen climbing into a field backing onto the airport runway.
But officers discovered that the gunman was a farmer ‘legitimately shooting vermin.’
Police, who revealed details of the alert today, say the incident happened on Good Friday.
