A dramatic video sent in by Sussex World Jane Weston shows the destructive extent of flooding in Pagham following heavy rain across the south coast last night and this morning (October 25).

The video shows part of Pagham totally submerged in water, with waves lapping half way up concrete bollards on the pavement, and motorists struggling to make their way through the high waters.

It appears Pagham Road, Sea Lane and Hook Lane have all been effected, with further flood reports coming out of the Witterings, near Chichester. The issues problems come after a yellow weather warning yesterday (October 24), which saw the MET office warning residents across the South Coast to prepare for potential flooding.

The flooding comes in the midst of Storm Babet, which has hung over parts of the UK since the beginning of the week – particularly parts of Scotland, the north and the midlands – but forecasters say it is no longer responsible for the heavy downpours.

Commenting on Facebook, another Sussex World reader added that the issue could be even broader. Lisa Edgington said she hasn’t seen thing this bad in Pagham for more than seven years: “Lots of people have water to the rim of their toilet bowls too,” she said “Gurgling in baths, basins & sinks!"
