Spokeswoman Pandora George said: “Worthing Museum will reopen from Saturday, May 22 with four fantastic new exhibitions and their nationally recognised permanent collections. The new exhibitions include the In Their Shoes exhibition celebrating the stories of local people from the last year, local abstract artist Anthony Bennett’s Indian Yellow, an exhibition of illustrations by Hercule Van Wolfswinkle and the winners of WTM’s online Digital Open20.

“For the first time, the museum will be offering the opportunity to explore the exhibitions and collections in the evening. The Worthing museum ‘Late’ will take place every Thursday (10pm-8pm). The museum will also be open Saturdays 10am-5pm.

“The live events programme begins with a month packed full of fantastic events, with something for everyone to enjoy, opening on Tuesday, May 18 with Hannah Brackenbury’s Victorious, a joyful and poignant musical tribute to the late great Victoria Wood, followed by hilarious Britain's Got Talent finalist Daliso Chaponda on Wednesday, May 19.

“The following week sees live family theatre return to the Pavilion Theatre with Pinocchio running from Saturday, May 29 to Thursday, June 3. The live events programme will then continue with Daniel Sloss (June 4), The Bloody Chamber (June 11-12), and the return of Worthing’s Conn Artists Theatre Company with A Perfect Likeness (July 3).”

CEO Amanda O’Reilly said: “We are excited at the prospect of being able to welcome our community back into all of our venues to enjoy an amazing programme of live events and exhibitions. The safety of our audiences and staff remains our top priority and over the next few weeks we will be flexible in planning and remain optimistic that the government’s roadmap will stay on track and we will be able to open on schedule. We cannot wait to see you all!

“Based on the government's current roadmap, WTM are planning to expand their programme and opening hours from Monday, June 21. This will include reopening the Connaught cinema with a unique and exciting programme of the best in art-house, documentaries and foreign cinema alongside the incredible blockbusters and screenings of much loved classic films from the archives.

“From June 21 Worthing Museum’s opening hours will be extended and social distancing measures altered in line with government guidance on social contact.

“From May 17 to June 21 all WTM venues will continue with social distancing measures and additional safety procedures including fogging the venues, e-tickets and socially distanced seating. WTM have already installed a new air movement system at the Pavilion Theatre and have plans to install one in the Connaught Theatre and Studio in the next few weeks.”
