After Kieron Dawson and Nick Buoy left the club earlier this week, Raiders have now announced that Davies will return as high performance manager and Ben Coulson and Jody Levett will be club coaches. Paul Loader will be Raiders’ A manager/assistant coach and James Arthur will be Raiders’ A coach.

Worthing Rugby Club chairman Brian Vincent said: “With Daws and Nick stepping down from their duties, we are able to announce that for the 2016-17 season, former club coach, Ian Davies, lately head coach and director of rugby at Championship side, Cornish Pirates, and newly appointed head of rugby at Christ Hospital, Horsham, is returning to Sussex and the club where he is to take up the position of high performance manager.

“The role will see Ian working with former Raiders players and now established high level coaches, Ben Coulson and Jody Levett, as they collectively take charge of the Raiders.

“The coaching and management of the squad will also be strengthened by the return of Paul Loader as manager and assistant coach of Raiders A’s alongside lead coach and former Raiders skipper and club stalwart, James Arthur.

“Ian’s experiences in professional rugby since departing Worthing at the end of the 2008/09 season for Cornish Pirates, will be invaluable, together with Ben and Jody, in the coming season in terms of Worthing Raiders continuing to compete at National 2 level, mounting a challenge and ultimately winning promotion again to National 1 and then retaining a position within the top 40 teams in the Country.

“Ian will also be involved in supporting club coaches and our development of youth teams and players that continue to achieve a high level of success and as players, make their transition into adult rugby at the highest levels they aspire to achieve.”

Vincent also praised the job Dawson and Buoy did at Raiders and said: “The club are extremely grateful to Daws and Nick, for the hard work and commitment given through these years. They have helped the progression of both players and teams during their term and have coached and developed an exciting brand of rugby that the many supporters of the Raiders, have enjoyed and cheered at The Rugby Park, over the years.

“Both Daws and Nick have young families and increasing work commitments outside of rugby at Worthing and following the Raiders securing National 2 level rugby for next season, the decision has been reached that the time is right for all, to make changes.

“We wish Daws and Nick and their families, the very best for the future and we look forward to seeing them at the club in coming seasons. As we say, once a Raider, always a Raider.”
