ANGMERING Stoolball Club won the Sussex Championship for the 17th consecutive season and the 19th time in total on Sunday.

The Championship is held between the winner of each of the five divisions in Sussex, with a preliminary round, semi-finals and then the final.

Angmering, who were joint winners of the West Division, took on Central Division champions Lindfield in the 30-overs-a-side final at Plumpton.

Angmering lost the toss and were put into bat and scored 303, with the final wicket falling on the last delivery.

Melissa Mantle (34) and Sophie Parnell (52) put on a sound opening partnership, before a flurry of wickets fell which left Angmering 123-4.

Karen Chapman-Gain (61) and Georgie Moon (42) took the total to 233-6, before Jo Davison (30) and Alice Mantle (20 not out) provided a ninth-wicket stand to take the team past the 300-mark.

Lindfield were then destroyed by a superb bowling and team fielding display.

Parnell claimed five wickets for eight runs, which included a three-wicket maiden, Carole Nichols took 3-16, including a two-wicket maiden, Becky Beale held three catches and claimed a direct hit run out, as Lindfield were dismissed in the seventh over for just 24.

Angmering represented the West Division in the Championship after winning a coin toss against Loxwood – after the sides finished the season with identical league records. A play-off took place but was abandoned owing to the weather, which meant a coin toss was needed.

Angmering then reached the final with victory over North Division winners Newick in the semi-finals.
