Rustington FC just missed out on a remarkable treble - but manager Jon Tucker said it did not put a damper on a ‘fantastic season’.

Tucker’s men, who secured the Division 2 League title on Saturday by beating Westfield 2-0, lost 1-0 to Bosham in the Division 2 Challenge Cup final last Thursday.
It took a goal three minutes from time to decide the tight affair.

But Tucker was just happy to have the chance of a treble.

He said: “To think we could have won the treble at the beginning of the year, it’s crazy. But the closer we got? Yes it was nice to be still in contention.

“But at the beginning of the season, the league was the bread and butter, I think Bill Shankly said a quote years and years ago about it, the league was the one we wanted to win.
“The cups were a bonus. To get the Intermediate Cup was amazing and a fantastic achievement.

“And the amount of games we had at the end of the season, to lose 1-0 to Bosham in the last three minutes with a squad that was down to it’s bare bones, there’s no disappointment at all.”
Tucker is now looking forward to a break before he meets with the club to decide his future.

He said: “A couple of weeks off because it’s been a long old season.

“It will be time to get together with the committee and see what their plans are, and what my plans are for the future. Nothing has been set in stone yet.

“It is a phenomenal club Rustington but it’s just a shame haven’t got the facilities to progress higher because it would be great to take them into County 1 and further if possible. It is what it is unfortunately.

“I am an ambitious manager who wants to manager at the highest level possible.”

“The club are 100% behind me whatever I do. They know I am ambitious but they don’t want to lose me. But it is a fantastic club and big key for me is my family love the club.”
