ARUNDEL Football Club bounced back from their FA Vase first round exit two weeks ago with a draw against Hassocks in County League Division 1.

It all began so well for the Mullets as Barney Boutwood struck in the fourth minute.

However, Hassocks were level just eight minutes later when Jake Booth netted and both sides had to settle for a point.

Arundel boss Simon Butler felt his side should have taken all three points from the contest and said: “I was very disappointed that we did not come away from the match with three points if I’m totally honest.

“We went in front early on and I was confident that I would kick on from that point.

“But Hassocks got themselves level and slowed us up a little bit.

“I don’t think James (Fernandes) in our goal has had another shot to save in the whole game, which makes it that but more frustrating.

“We had a number of good chances and then had a goal which I thought should have stood ruled out for offside.

“It was just one of those days when you have to settle for the point but I felt we deserved all three.

“I think we could have played a little better, especially in the first-half, as I thought it was not our best showing.

“But we had a go in the second-half without finding that killer second.”

It was the home side who took an early lead through Boutwood, following a thunderous 25-yard free-kick.

Arundel were not ahead for long, though, as Booth struck on 12 minutes to level the scores.

Max Thoms thought he had put his side ahead once again late in the first-half but his fierce struck went just wide of the upright.

Arundel continued to apply pressure in the second period and did have the ball in the back of the net on 70 minutes.

However, Scott Tipper saw his effort ruled out for offside as the scores remained level.

Tipper saw his effort well saved by the visitors’ goalkeeper with ten minutes to go as Arundel were held to a draw.
