EAST PRESTON Cricket Club sealed their first win of the season with a 13-run victory away to Felbridge & Sunnyside on Saturday.
After being put into bat, East Preston posted 137 for eight from their 49 overs. An inspired performance with the ball then saw them bowl Felbridge out for 124 to clinch their first success of the season.
East Preston captain Gary Weedon feels that the victory will be crucial for his side and said: “This time last season we were losing games heavily, before kicking on in the second half of the season.
“Hopefully, this will give us some momentum and allow us to be competitive throughout the season.
“From the very first over, we knew it was going to be a tricky wicket to score on.
“It was really hard to time the ball and you never felt secure as a batter. But, from previous low-scoring games at Felbridge, we felt we had a competitive score and that proved to be the case.”
EP struggled early on and lost Weedon (ten), Tim Miles (six) and Tom Chamberlain (11) cheaply.
Tom Reeves (35) and Chris Richards (36) allowed EP to reach a competitive total of 137 for eight.
Felbridge seamer Thomas Sullivan took three wickets, while Jamie Parrett and Chris Richens both took two.
East Preston made some early inroads as they dismissed Jack Williams (six) and John Connelly (one).
Aaron Willsher made 33 as he attempted to help his side reach their target.
Parrett, who batted at number nine, made 25 and number ten Sam Rintoul hit 20 but Felbridge were all out for 124.
Richard Laker finished with figures of five for 36 from 13 overs. Mark Coskin took three for 41 from 14 overs and Chamberlain picked up two wickets.
