Valentine’s Day is on its way, and across the country thousands of couples are drawing up their plans for that most romantic of evenings.

But when everyone wants to go out for a candlelit dinner, things can get a little busy – not to mention expensive.

Thankfully, supermarkets have noticed this, and dining in for two is the new going out. Here are the best meal deals available for your cosy night inside this Valentine’s Day.

Aldi

£7 gets you:
1 main
1 side
1 dessert

Aldi’s Valentine’s Day meal deal isn’t actually necessarily designed for two, so it may not work out as cheap as you’d expect. This no frills deal also isn’t at a set price, but is instead a range of budget options from the budget supermarket’s ‘Specially Selected’ range.

However, for as little as £7 you can get your hands on quite the feast, with British beef wellington, sirloin steaks with pink peppercorn butter, truffled macaroni cheese, and Orkney cheese and chicken gratin all on offer.

ASDA

£15 gets you:
1 starter
1 main
2 sides
1 dessert
1 bottle of wine

ASDA’s Valentine’s deal is one of the cheaper ones out there, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less impressive.

Starters include Sauvignon Blanc & Wild Garlic Mussels, while the pork belly and apple hoglets will go down a treat as a main.

There don’t seem to be many veggie or vegan choices on offer here, and those with special dietary needs seem to be consigned to just picking at a few sides, but the meat eaters out there will find plenty to enjoy among ASDA’s limited range.

Those who would rather not drink alcohol have a choice of alcohol-free prosecco or lemonade.

Co-op

£8 gets you:
1 main
2 sides

Co-op specify that the main in their meal deal is of sharing size, which makes their £8 offer rather enticing.

Everything’s from the shop’s ‘Irresistible’ range is up for grabs here, and the mains include Pecorino Mac & Cheese, and Chicken in White Wine Sauce.

Those with a sweet tooth will be pleased to hear that desserts are included in the ‘sides’ category, so you could pick one side and one dessert for the same price instead.

£20 gets you:

1 main
1 side
1 dessert
1 bottle Of Fizz

The offer is a twist on the supermarket’s popular ‘dine in for £10’ offer, and includes a starter, main, side, dessert, box of chocolates and bottle of fizz for two people for £20.

Customers can choose from the likes of Coquille St Jacques, salmon and king prawn stacks, rump steak with peppercorn sauce, butterflied sea bass fillets, truffled cauliflower cheese, profiterole stacks and apple and almond slices.

Those following a plant-based diet don’t have to miss out either, with vegan sweet potato falafels and roasted mushroom stroganoff also on the menu.

£18.25 gets you:
1 starter
1 main
1 side
1 dessert
1 bottle of fizz

Sainsbury’s are offering two versions of their meal for two this year – an £18.25 option that comes with prawns, and a £15.75 one that doesn’t.

It’s a set menu affair, and the bundle includes two rump steaks with heart-shaped pink peppercorn butter, crispy triple cooked chips in beef dripping, Gü zillionaires salted caramel cheesecake and Edizione 789 Di Mondelli prosecco.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t see any vegan or vegetarian options on offer.

Tesco

£20 gets you:
1 starter
2 mains
1 side
1 dessert
1 bottle of wine/prosecco OR 1 box of chocolates

With plenty of food included from Tesco’s ‘Finest’ range in their Valentine’s Day deal, you needn’t worry about looking ungenerous on the big day.

Veggie options are limited but broader than some other deals, with the likes of buttery pastry filled slow roast tomato and mozzarella tartlets to start, goat’s cheese with maple roasted butternut and caramelised onion for main, and coconut, mango and passion fruit desserts to finish.

If you’re not a pudding person, you can load up on carbs and swap out your dessert for potato dauphinoise or a selection of green vegetables.

Really push the boat out by opting for champagne as your tipple of choice – though you’ll only get a half-sized bottle.

Waitrose

£20 gets you:
1 starter
1 one Main
2 sides
1 bottle of wine OR 1 box of chocolates

Waitrose’s two course deal does come with a couple of sides, so you can build a dream meal out of complementing separate elements, or turn the whole thing into more of a sharing platter, if you wish.

Mains include everything from smoked salmon en croute to lamb leg steaks, with starters like feta and baby plum tomato quiches, and mushroom arancini to set you up for a feast.

There’s not much wiggle room for vegetarians unfortunately, with the vegan ‘beef’ wellington the only meat-free main on offer.

And that choice between chocolates or a bottle of wine could kill the romantic mood altogether.
