There is an acute crisis in Europe concerning the acceptance and handling of refugees.
It seems that each country has adopted its own approach.
Some have deployed massive resources on their own territories like Germany and Sweden.
The UK has mainly put the focus on helping the refugees near their homeland.
This involves a major financial deployment. We all know that the government has cut back spending at the central and local levels.
The public do not want further large transfers of public funds overseas.
Instead of government funding for refugees, we now need to deploy the financial resources of the greatest untapped centre of wealth in this country – the City of London.
We all know that the banks do not blink at paying their top people astronomical salaries.
Well now there is a crisis where the financial sector can help pay back the debt they owe to the British people for their past misdemeanours!
How about a special Syria emergency tax of 50 per cent on the salaries and bonuses of all those earning more than £100,000 a year at all UK financial institutions?
It’s not exactly making the pips squeak! Who knows the banks may make an even more generous offer to fend that one off?
