We are entering an election confronted by a chaos of nit-picking parties, that can only distort political reality.
If the three main parties got their act together, they could provide the only rational generalised alternatives for society today.
The minor parties would be far better as quite legitimate pressure groups, on environmental, population, and other pet issues. They could then keep away from other matters that are largely irrelevant, but they could certainly back candidates for the main parties who express sympathy for their particular agendas.
But then, in the next couple of generations, the issues will be decided by force of nature.
