Young people's good work is recognised

Young people's exceptional achievements in supporting and helping others have been recognised for a third year.

The Rotary Arun Youth Community Awards are held to celebrate the wonderful work of young people from across the Arun district.

This year’s ceremony took place at The Windmill Theatre in Littlehampton, where Rotary district governor Frank West presented certificates to 18 individuals and five groups.

Peter Stemp, from Bognor Regis Rotary Club, said: “All of the nominees had shown themselves to be exceptionally caring, especially brave, or generously giving of their time to volunteer or raise money for charity.

“The nominations were given to Arun Youth Council, who had the difficult task of selecting a winner in each of the three age categories and the one group category.”

A significant addition to this year’s awards evening was the inclusion of excellent musical interludes by students from West Sussex Music, , who all performed magnificently.

The ceremony was presented by the Rotary clubs of Littlehampton, Arundel, Bognor Hotham and Bognor Regis in association with Insight Rotaract Club of Littlehampton.

Josh Funnell, chairman of the youth council, said: “It is incredibly important that we recognise the outstanding conduct of young people in our community and this is the perfect opportunity to do so.”

The winners received a trophy and gift token in recognition of their outstanding achievements.

Winners were: 11 to 12 years, Joseph Worne; 13 to 15 years , Georgia Cooksey; 16 to 19 years, Emma Warburton; group prize, St John Ambulance cadets, Bognor Regis.

All the Rotary club involved are determined to continue to develop this annual celebration of young people’s achievements and next year’s event will be held in March.
