A Wick man has gone to prison for six and a half years after being found guilty of raping a woman.
Ian Nyman, 45, of West Way, Wick, was sentenced at Chichester Crown Court on Thursday June 30 having been found guilty of raping a woman in Wick in October last year.
Police said he will also be a registered sex offender for life.
Detective constable Stuart McPherson of the West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit said: “This woman bravely came forward the day after the incident and gave evidence against Nyman. The jury was directed by the judge that they could draw inferences from Nyman’s ‘no comment’ interview with police, carried out when he was arrested the day the offence was reported.
“They were clearly sure of Nyman’s guilt as they came back with a unanimous guilty verdict less than 90 minutes after retiring.
“Hopefully the victim will now be able to draw some closure after her terrible ordeal which left her emotionally exhausted for many months afterwards.”
