Police are appealing for witnesses to a cigarettes burglary at a Littlehampton supermarket.

Police said shortly after 3am on Monday, two masked intruders broke into Sainsbury’s supermarket in High Street, Littlehampton, and stole various brands of cigarettes from a tobacco kiosk within the store.

Alarms were triggered and it is believed the thieves got in and out by forcing a fire exit that opens onto a side road at the rear of The Crown public house.

Described as both wearing a balaclava, hooded black jackets. blue jeans, black shoes and gloves, they are then thought to have driven off in a dark coloured saloon car, possibly a Ford Mondeo or Vauxhall Vectra, in the direction of Anchor Springs, according to Sussex Police.

Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious, or who may have other information, is asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting serial 118 of 23/05.

Alternatively they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (www.crimestoppers-uk.org).
