Sussex astronaut Tim Peake is looking forward to a pizza and a cold beer after landing safe and sound following his six-month stay on the International Space Station.
Tim and his fellow astronauts landed in sunny and warm conditions south-west of the major Kazakhstan city of Karaganda right on time at 10.15am this morning (Saturday June 18).
After being lifted out of the cpasule, Tim was attended to by nurses and doctors before wiping his head with a towel as he sat in the hot sunshine with a broad smile on his face.
Tim said of his trip home that it was “the best ride I’ve been on ever!”
Asked about the mission he said: “It was fantastic start to finish, truly amazing.”
He added that the smells of the Earth were so strong and that the fresh air was ‘really good’.
Asked what he would miss about being in space, Tim said: “I’ll miss the amazing views definitely.”
Tim previously said he was looking forward to the feel of rain on his face. As he sat in the blazing sun he said; “I’d love some cool rain right now. It’s very hot now and the capsule was very hot.”
He said he was now looking forward to seeing his family and having “a pizza and a cold beer later”.
