Plans submitted for 30 homes in Walberton
Plans for 30 homes, car parking and open space in Walberton have been submitted to Arun District Council.
The application for land at West Walberton Lane was prepared by Pegasus on behalf of the applicant Macra Ltd.
The homes include flats, a bungalow, terraces, semi and detached houses from one to four bedrrooms and nine (30 per cent) would be affordable.
Access would be via Eastergate Lane and the plans include pedestrian and cycle links, a public open space including an extension to the village green, a pond and a community orchard.
Initial pre application advice was sought in November 2019 when the council raised concerns about it being environmentally sustainable due to the loss of open countryside and the design being out of character with the rural location.
However the council did acknowledge its shortfall against the five-year housing requirement.
A second pre application consultation was held a year later with a ‘completely revised scheme’ designed to ‘respect more positively’ the neighbouring conservation area.
A response from the council in February raised the same concerns, however.
