There are lots of volunteering opportunities across the area

Volunteering is about giving whatever time you can – it doesn’t have to be hours at a time or even every week if you can’t commit to that.

Whatever spare time you have could make a massive difference in the local community, so why not see what volunteer roles there are that will fit in with the commitments you already have.

Shop assistant – St Wilfrid’s Hospice

St Wilfrid’s Hospice offers specialist palliative care to patients at home, in hospital and in the hospice.

Their shop in Barnham is a busy shop at the heart of the village and this is an opportunity to assist in the day-to-day tasks.

The role involves engaging with customers, through offering help and assistance, and operation of the till.

It may also involve sorting of donations and creating window and shop displays.

This role would suit anyone who enjoys working with others in a busy and friendly environment.

No retail experience is necessary as training will be provided.

Housebound reader service volunteer – West Sussex Library Service

West Sussex Library Service are looking for volunteers to select, deliver and return books and other stock for people who are unable to travel to or use their nearest library due to age, illness or disability.

Tasks will include: selecting books and other stock to suit the requirements of your reader, delivering books and other stock to your reader and returning books to the library, reserving specific items if necessary, helping your reader to be aware of the full range of items available in the library, using the self-service machines to issue items to your volunteer’s ticket and return items, and communicating any queries or concerns to library staff.

Committee trustee – Scope West Sussex

Scope West Sussex provides a resource unit for people from 18 to 50 years of age. As people have understood the possibility of independence, they have moved away from the traditional activities of day care and turned to leisure and the opportunities it presents for social interaction with other members at The Point and out in the general community.

They are looking for volunteers to join an existing board of trustees and work towards the maintenance and improvement of an established local charity.

Those with experience in accounting, bookkeeping, and general business acumen would be particularly welcome.

Breakfast club helper – Launch Pad Breakfast Club & Walking Bus

Launch Pad is a free Breakfast Club that runs before school every day during term-time.

Children who attend get a healthy nutritious breakfast plus opportunities for games or craft sessions before cleaning their teeth and joining the Walking Bus to school.

More volunteers are needed to assist the Launch Pad team in giving up to 40 children a healthy and nutritious start to the day.

Tasks would include: preparing fruit, setting the tables, helping the children to make informed choices, joining in with craft activities, clearing away and encouraging children to brush their teeth.

Help is required from 7.30am until 9am, term time only.
