Lucy said: “Making the decision to compete in Miss Sussex 2015 was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, winning the title has meant the absolute world to me.

“It’s given me the platform to not only get involved with the Sussex community but to also have the privilege to help and raise awareness for fantastic charities.

“During my year, I challenged myself to a 10k run over the South Downs, a mini triathlon and I organised my first public speaking speech at my tennis club’s summer ball all in aid of the charity ‘Beauty with a Purpose’, the Miss England and Miss World charity to help disadvantaged children worldwide and in the UK, where I raised just over £1,300 altogether.

“I’ve also had the honour of being an ambassador for the charity Action Medical Research which helps save and change children’s lives through medical research.

“I know a lot of people have the own opinions on beauty pageants, and a lot are negative, but for me taking part in Miss England as Miss Sussex has not only helped me find a new found confidence within myself but has also opened up work and charity opportunities which I thought I would have never been able to do.

“Pageants bring people together and creates a platform to do good. Yes, we do dress up in lovely dresses and wear crowns and sashes but that’s just a small percentage of the whole thing. The rest of our time is used to raise money, become ambassadors for charities, become role models for young people and try to make a difference in this world, even if it is just small.

“Being Miss Sussex 2015 has been so fulfilling and it really has meant the absolute world to me, it truly is sad to hand over my title but I also know that whoever the next Miss Sussex is, she will do our county proud and I’m so excited for her to experience what I’ve experienced.”
