POLICE have arrested a man as part of a rape investigation in Bognor Regis town centre.

The 42-year-old Bognor man was arrested on suspicion of raping a woman in the Sunken Gardens, Waterloo Square, in the early hours of Saturday (October 3), said Sussex Police.

Police said a 26-year-old woman reported she was subjected to what was called a ‘prolonged assault’ at around 2am.

The 42-year-old was arrested later that evening and has been released on police bail until November 28.

Sgt Alan Fenn urged anyone potential witnesses to come forward by either emailing or calling 101 and quoting reference 0168 of October 3.
