VOTERS from the Arun district will head to the polls today (May 7) in one of the tightest general elections in living memory.
National opinion polls have shown Conservatives and Labour neck and neck over the last few days, and even if one party emerges the winner, neither are expected to have a majority of MPs in the House of Commons.
Candidates in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton are Alan Butcher (Labour), Nick Gibb (Conservative), Graham Jones (UKIP), Simon McDougall (Green) and Francis Oppler (Liberal Democrat).
In 2010’s general election 46,852 people cast their votes in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton – a turnout of 66.2 per cent.
Polls open at 7am and close at 10pm, with Arun District Council elections running alongside the national poll.

In 2010’s general election Sussex returned 13 Conservative MPs, two Lib Dems and one Green, with six seats changing hands.
Whatever happens across Sussex, several constituencies are guaranteed to return new MPs with politicians standing down in Bexhill and Battle, Horsham, Wealden, and Hove.
According to the Met Office voters heading out today can expect a dry and mostly sunny day across Sussex.
