MOURNERS threw flowers into a river today (November 22) in memory of a friend who died in the Shoreham air show tragedy three months ago.
Friends of Matt Jones, 24, from Littlehampton, threw flowers into the River Adur in his memory ahead of the memorial at 1pm.
The service remembered the 11 men who died when a Hawker Hunter jet crashed into the A27 on August 22 while performing at the Shoreham Airshow.
Today, the Bishop of Chichester told mourners ‘grief must blend with love and hope in a celebration of the lives of these 11 men’.
Matt Jones was travelling along the A27 in a car with his friend Daniele Polito, 23, who was also killed in the tragedy.

Speaking after the service, the government’s communities secretary Greg Clark said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the friends and families who lost loved ones during these tragic events and I would like to thank the whole community in Shoreham for the way they have rallied round and helped to organise today’s service.
“I would also like to pay tribute to the bravery and professionalism of the emergency services in West Sussex for the way they responded. Our fire, rescue, police, ambulance and other medical and emergency services are world class and we owe a huge debt of gratitude for their self-sacrifice and dedication.”
