A CHARITY which helps disabled people right across the district is facing untold disruption to its services following a devastating blaze next to its base in Ford.

The Arun Co-ordinated Community Transport HQ is next to the building in the Rudford Industrial Estate, which yesterday (Monday, August 17) was gutted by a major a fire (See page 3).

Peter Austin, project manager for the cause, said the aftermath of the fire had left the charity in disarray.

“We’ve been forced to move from our office upstairs because of the smoke damage to the building,” Mr Austin said. “The fire next door damaged the partition wall between us and the other building.”

He explained that Monday’s incident had left the charity without a phone line for several hours.

He added that they were now in the process of trying to find a new temporary base while repairs are carried out.

When asked how long the charity will be disrupted for, Mr Austin said: “How long’s a piece of string?

“We don’t know how long the disruption will be for.

“We just want people to know that we are still here and ready to help.”

The charity offers transport to disabled people from across the Arun District, and serves thousands of people each year.

Those wishing to contact the service for support are being urged to call 01903 723584, email the charity on or see here.
