Firefighters tackle fire at shops in Worthing

Firefighters have battled a fire behind some shops in Worthing this morning (March 14).

Crews from Worthing Fire Station and East Preston were called to Ferring Street in Ferring to reports of a fire at 7.55am.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two high pressure hose reels and three fire extinguishers to tackle the flames.

The fire is reported to have started behind a row of shops.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “Firefighters dealt with a fire involving a property on Ferring Street in Ferring earlier this morning. Joint Fire Control mobilised the retained crew from East Preston and two crews from Worthing Fire Station to the scene after the call came in at 7.55am.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two high pressure hose reels, two CO2 extinguishers, one dry powder extinguisher and a covering jet to extinguish the fire.

“The last crew booked away from the incident at 9.43am.”
