Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman had her handbag snatched in Worthing.
The 86-year-old victim was walking along Wenban Passage, between Stanhope Road and Wenban Road, at about 10.50am on Monday, December 5 when the incident occurred, police said.
A young man snatched her bag and ran off towards Stanhope Road.
No words were exchanged and the woman was not touched or injured, police confirmed.
The handbag was later found discarded in a garden nearby, with £25 missing.
The suspect is described as a white man, aged between 18 and 23, about 5ft 9in, of slim build, with short mousey brown hair in a centre parting.
He was wearing a dark blue jacket – possibly of denim material – and blue jeans.
PC David Slade said: “This was a very frightening and traumatic ordeal for the elderly victim.
“We would urge anyone who has any information which could help identify the person responsible – or anyone who saw the incident – to report it to police online at https://sussex.police.uk/contact-us/response-to-appeal/ or call 101, quoting serial 379 of 05/12.”
Alternatively, people can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
