People constructed their own dens to take part in Worthing Churches Homeless Projects’ sleepout in Littlehampton.
Held at the end of last month, 17 people took part in the event in the playground of River Beach Primary School, in York Road.
The sleepout is an annual sponsored fundraising event usually raising in excess of £5,000. The funds raised go towards helping the charity support more than 1,100 people per year.
Community fundraiser Caitlin Mulholland said: “It was such a great event to take part in, everyone I’ve spoken to has told me how much its opened their eyes to the hardship of rough sleeping, what an effect just spending one night sleeping outside like this can have on your body and mind.
“It emphasised to them all just how important the services are that WCHP provide.”
The event allows participants to experience a glimpse of rough sleeping and some of the conditions the people the charity helps face.
The charity supports homeless and insecurely housed men and women and helps them from the beginning of their journey and their life on the street right through to living independently.
