WORTHING UNITED succeeded in engaging half their first team for their FA Vase match today (Saturday, September 6)
After their manager Paul Curtis quit last Tuesday, and in support of that action, he alleged, none of their first team agreed to play for United at Selsey that evening, five turned out today.

But the County League first division club went down 2-0
at home to Division 2 leaders Crawley Down.

Selsey had beaten a 10-man Mavericks team of second-team players 8-0. Reserves team manager Mick Duffell took charge that night and remained at the helm today, when defender Ben McKenzie, midfielders Steve Yeo and Kier McCartney, and forwards Adam Hunt and Peter Brackley were the first-team men who rejoined the fold.

Club co-chairman Rob McAlees said: "I was very encouraged. I thought people worked hard for the club and the level of commitment today was high.

"We gave Crawley Down a good run and, although we weren't quite at full strength, we gave them a game."

McAlees said the club are actively looking for a new manager and await after this weekend the result of an approach they have made to a possible successor to Curtis.
