FIELD PLACE shine the Worthing light in the Women's National Bowls Finals at Leamington Spa. They will be in the fours last 64 on Sunday against a Berkshire quartet.
Edie Bond, Jean Meneely Tina Phillips and Wendy Davies defeated Carol Fennell's Henfield four in the Sussex semi-final at Lewes. That took them not only into the Sussex Final against Amy Truran's St Francis team at Haywards Heath on August 15, but cl
inched their place at Leamington Spa.
Meneely and Davies were in the trio who became 2004 National Triples champions and the 2005 British Isles champions. Their two player, Freda Linberry, is not available enough to mount a county campaign this season.
Meanwhile, Field Place moved into the Sussex Top Club closing stages with an 83-55 victory in their zone final against Chichester at Beach House Park on Saturday. Meneely won her singles, Bond and Davies their pairs, and Phillips skipped the winning triple.
Pat Fulcher made it a clean sweep by skipping the four to victory by one shot.
Littlehampton's Norfolk club have Lin Curtis and June Taffurelli in the National Pairs finals and Brenda Mockett in the Two-Wood Singles.
Storrington's trio skipped by Joan Ackerman reached the triples county semi-finals — one hurdle short of Leamington Spa.
In the men's game, Pavilion's Rod Jamieson has reached the National Singles finals at Beach House Park on August 21.
But he is the sole local success in the main competitions.
