WORTHING Borough Council hopes the promenade between Splash Point and George V Avenue will eventually be used by both cyclists and pedestrians.
The council wants to start a trial "as soon as is practically possible", making that stretch of the seafront a shared and unsegregated space.

Currently there is a cycle lane running along the seafront between Splash Point and Brooklands.

The council said many coastal towns are now introducing shared use promenades and it believes the presence of pedestrians would limit cyclists' speed.

An earlier consultation as part of the town's Masterplan showed this kind of shared use arrangement was generally supported by the public.

But before the trial can start, bylaws have to be changed, which "could take quite a while to achieve", according to the council.

In the meantime, the council wants to hear what residents have to say, which can be found at its website www.worthing.gov.uk

What do you think?

Would you welcome the return of a cycle lane along the promenade?

What concerns do you have about the proposals?
