WORK to build a new puffin crossing in Goring has started today (Monday, August 4).
A £45,000 project will involve pedestrian-operated traffic signals being installed at Goring Way, west of the Aldsworth Avenue roundabout.
The crossing will have raised blistered paving and an audible beeper to help blind and partially-sighted people cross the road more safely.
Derek Whittington, West Sussex County Council cabinet member for strategic planning and transport, said: "We are pleased to be able to install a crossing at this point, especially as it is on a school route."
It is estimated the work will take up to four weeks to complete, and will be carried out between 8am and 5pm.
Temporary traffic lights will be used to help traffic flow through the area for the duration of the work.
