FIREFIGHTERS from Worthing, Littlehampton and Shoreham, were among more than 100 officers from Sussex and Surrey called to tackle a blaze which gutted a lap-dancing club.
The fire broke out at the new Redd club, in the Martlets shopping complex, Burgess Hill, shortly before 2am today (Tuesday, July 15).

Flames caused the roof to collapse into the club, which was closed at the time, causing difficulty for firefighters trying to tackle "deep-seated burning".

There are no reports of any injuries and the blaze has been brought under control.

Smoke plumes

Plumes of smoke are still rising from the burning building and fire crews are still on scene tackling a series of small fires which continue to break out.

The nearby Pulse bar/restaurant and a shop below the club have suffered water damage.

Worthing firefighters were called to provide cover in Henfield when first reports were received around 2am, before attending the blaze at 3am.

Retained crew

A crew of retained firefighters from Worthing joined the effort at 9.45am to relieve firefighters who had tackled the fire overnight.

Police and fire crews will remain at the scene through the day.

A fire service spokeswoman said it was still too early to speculate on the cause of the fire.
