THE only girl band to enter a music contest beat off tough male competition to scoop first prize.
Demelza's Tea Party wowed judges to win £100 in recording time at Ivy Arch Studios during a battle-of-the-bands competition at St Andrew's High School for Boys, Worthing.

The band is made up of girls from Davison High School – Flossie Marriott, Demelza Marriott, Rooney Durrant and Gabi King – plus friend Becky Redford from Shoreham Academy.

Flossie said on winning: "We're all really chuffed and overwhelmed."

The girls were the only female group to make it into the challenging final, with the other five bands made up of boys from St Andrew's.

The event was organised by students at Davison and St Andrew's in aid of St Barnabas House Hospice in Durrington.
