A MAN has been arrested in connection with an attack in which a 21-year-old Durrington man had his ear cut off
The 21-year-old victim was attacked in Vancouver Road, Durrington, at about 2am on Tuesday (August 5).
His right ear was cut off with a knife and he is currently being treated in a specialist hospital in East Grinstead. He also suffered bruising.
Specialist police search teams, including a sniffer dog trained in finding body parts, were called to the scene to find the ear and knife. But both are still missing.
An appeal for witnesses by police led to a number of calls from Durrington residents and today (Thursday, August 7) a Worthing man was arrested in connection with the assault.
He is currently being questioned by police.
But police are still trying to trace two other men seen leaving the area at the time of the attack.
Detective Inspector Dave Wilkins said: "This was a particularly horrific crime as a result of which the victim will be scarred for life.
"I would appeal to anyone who has knowledge of the whereabouts of the men responsible to come forward and tell us."
Anyone with any information is asked to call Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 140 of August 5th. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
