AN ANGRY resident has said "something must be done" about the problem of youngsters vandalising Homefield Park, Worthing.
Elaine Massey said the problem had been going on for weeks but was worse than ever on Saturday, when almost 20 teenagers started pulling branches from trees.

The 67-year-old, of Newland Road, wanted to see a police presence in the park 24 hours a day and said: "I live across the road and this has got to stop.

"It was so bad on Saturday that I had to call the police. It's not nice for the people that use it to have teenagers doing that in there."

Elaine said she had the support of her neighbours and friends, who wanted to see the green space remain a peaceful place to go.

She said: "The police should have someone walking through the park every day. It's such a beautiful space and it needs to stay that way."

Sergeant Nick Bowman, of Worthing police, confirmed a report of vandalism was received, but when officers arrived on the scene they could not find anyone.

Police would keep an eye on the situation, he said.
